Things to Do
Most parents feel that feeding their family well is extremely important. Many parents would like their children to eat healthier but there are a number of obstacles that get in the way. Some of these obstacles include busy schedules, children who are picky eaters and constantly changing nutritional advice. Here are a few tips to help your families eat healthy:
- Act as a role model -Set a healthy example for your children to follow. If you opt for unhealthy foods, your children will follow suit.
- Store healthy snacks -If there are healthy snacks around, the family is more likely to snack on those rather than junk food.
- Be creative -Try and incorporate a new food or recipe into your routine. Offering new ideas is a fun and new way for your children to try healthy foods.
- Freshness is key -When buying produce for the family, make sure you are choosing fresh quality products. When produce is fresh it tastes better and provides better nutrients.
- Make it a family affair -Get your children involved in grocery shopping and meal planning. By getting them involved, you may find out about healthy foods they are willing to eat or try. Additionally, by being part of the process, they will be more excited.
- Educate on health -Teach your children about the importance of health and how certain foods affect them. It is important to teach them about healthy eating early on so they adapt healthier habits. By knowing how healthy food and junk food affects them, they will be more likely to make the right choices.
- Eat meals together -Try and take the time to eat meals together with the whole family. In addition to the importance of spending time together, it is important to sit down and show your children what a healthy meal really means.
