Teachers

There are a number of actions you can take to support the School Breakfast Program. You are a role model and major influence among children and it is important for you to support the significance of a nutritious breakfast every morning and the role it plays in a child’s learning process.

As a role model it is important to act positively about school meals and the School Breakfast Program. Be supportive against negative images of meals provided by the school, and encourage your students to try them. Remember to read school menus with your students on a daily basis so they are aware of what is being offered during mealtimes. Also, join your students for breakfast as often as possible. By joining them you are enforcing the importance of a well-balanced breakfast and being a role model for healthy eating.

Be an influence in your student’s learning process by discussing nutrition and the value of a healthy breakfast with them. Talk about the benefits of breakfast and the impact it makes on their actions during the school day. Also, incorporate your students into your daily lesson plans by allowing them to think of ideas for healthy breakfast menus, creative holiday breakfast ideas and more. For students who may not have the time in the morning to eat, encourage and allow them to eat breakfast in your classroom.
