“Eat your veggies!” Ever wonder why it’s so important to eat your vegetables?
There are many foods that are important to eat every day, especially for kids who are still growing. Here are a few tips to eating healthy:
- Drink water -When you’re really thirsty, water is the number one thirst-quencher. Not only does it keep you hydrated, but it is extremely good for your body.
- Drink milk -Milk has calcium which you need to grow strong bones. Aim for 3 cups of milk per day, or its equivalent.
- Eat lots of fruits and vegetables -Try to eat at least five servings a day for the nutrients you need.
- Try new foods -New foods can be exciting and have nutrients that are not in other foods you are eating.
- Choose healthy snacks -There are lots of snacks that are both delicious and good for you. Try one before reaching for those potato chips!

Here are some ideas for great tasting and healthy snacks:
- Cut up fresh veggies and dip them into hummus
- Mix granola with yogurt and fresh fruit
- Make a smoothie with yogurt and fresh or frozen fruit
- Coat a banana with peanut butter and dip it in Rice Krispies
- Top crackers with your favorite cheese
- Spread celery sticks with peanut butter
- Dip an apple in honey or peanut butter
- Make fruit kabobs with your favorite fresh fruit
- Dip baby carrots in low-fat ranch dressing
- Freeze yogurt in a cup with a stick to make a yogurt popsicle
